Overview

Powell River Community Forest Ltd (PRCF) will be awarding up to three $3,000 scholarships every year to local students entering or already enrolled in a recognized post-secondary university forest management or environmental studies programs. Also eligible are students or workers applying for forestry related trades or training programs.

PRCF takes a broad view of our own forest management responsibilities and we’ll consider this with students applying for our scholarships. Along with the obvious technical and degree programs in forestry, we seek out knowledge in fields such as engineering, hydrology, fish and wildlife biology, ecology, biodiversity, forest health, climate change, archeology, outdoor recreation management, and GIS.

Forestry related trades and training programs could involve apprenticeship programs, equipment operation, logging truck driver, heavy duty mechanic, falling, industrial first aid, log scaling, lumber grading etc.

Information on your ties to qathet region. We understand that to pursue education and work opportunities, it is likely you will need to relocate outside our community.

Please provide references from two community leaders, employers, volunteer coordinators, business owners or teachers and a transcript from your most recent or relevant schooling.

Please provide a short description of what field of study you wish to pursue, why it is important to you and how it relates to forest management activities. Once you have been accepted into the program, we will require your student number and proof of registration. Please include your direct contact information and update it if it changes during your summer employment.

Applicants may be interviewed by a Powell River Community Forest representative.

To receive scholarship monies, recipients will be asked to provide proof of enrollment in the post-secondary education program. Applications may be accepted from students entering the post-secondary program directly after graduating high school, high school graduates who may have taken a gap period before applying, students who have already partially completed the university program and are entering the subsequent year, or mature students transitioning to a new profession.
